Amaryllis / Hippeastrum
This beautifully exotic collector’s item, also known as the Butterfly Amaryllis, has deep burgundy petals, slightly twisted and widely striped with pale green. A smaller and shorter species that will stay evergreen and does not need to be forced into dormancy like other Amaryllis and will gradually produce more flowers as it matures over time.
Usually blooms 5-8 weeks after planted. Each Amaryllis bulb will produce a succession of two thick stems, 20-24” tall, topped with a bouquet of 4-5 intensely colored, outward-facing flowers. They may be kept for years as a potted houseplant with a leafy summer growth and regular winter bloom. Please see our plant care tip sheet Indoor Flowering Bulbs – Amaryllis for potting information and after-bloom care.
